Quote(s) of the Week (June 22, 1997)

On Feminism Redefined...

"The truth is, Susan B. Anthony was a staunch pro-lifer. In her newspaper, the Revolution, she called abortion ‘child murder.’ "

--Jane Abraham, president of the Susan B. Anthony List. Washington Times from June 20, 1997. Page A11.

On Parental Rights...

"At a time when more and more Americans believe the family is under severe pressure from government activities – court rulings in Hawaii that hold the denial of a marriage license to members of the same sex is illegal discrimination, to programs which distribute condoms to 11-year-old students but forbid the teaching of abstinence – is it any wonder the issue of parental rights has become so serious?"

--Colby May, writing in the spring ’97 issue of Paradigm 2000. Washington Times for June 20, 1997. Page A2.

On Exposing Myths...

"The present population of the entire Earth (approximately 6 billion) could easily fit into the state of Texas with the density of an average American city – far less than Tokyo, Mexico City or Calcutta. This can be demonstrated by a simple sixth grade-level calculation. That would leave the rest of the land mass of the entire world to the raising of food. So, you see, those who cry about overpopulation and the inability of the world to feed its people must have some other agenda."

--William F. Wheaton in a letter to the editor. Washington Times for June 16, 1997. Page A14.

On Where the Money Goes...

"In testimony before a House Appropriations subcommittee on March 12, FBI Director Louis Freeh noted the extent of special interest terrorist activity. He cited as one example a Feb. 2, 1992, arson of the mink research facility at Michigan State University. Rodney Coronado, a member of the Animal Liberation Front, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 57 months in prison. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sent $42,500 to Coronado’s ‘support committee,’ which was a sum 15 times greater than what PETA spent on animal shelters nationwide in all of that year."

--Cal Thomas, nationally syndicated columnist. Washington Times for June 22, 1997. Page B1.
